| Captain Duber Winters has been a licensed professional fishing guide since 1998. A true student of the sport, Duber immersed himself in the world of fishing when he was a young boy and never looked back. Known for his likeable personality and easy going demeanor, this fishing guide has a keen sense for understanding how to convey fishing techniques to anglers of all levels. Spinning rods, bait casting rigs, live baiting and fly fishing alike Duber is knowledgable of the various approaches used by today's anglers. While serving on the Pro-Staff for various sponsors over the years, Duber has worked the largest fishing trade shows on the East Coast. His affiliation with the industry and its key players is multi-layered. These connections are a direct benefit to his customers in that they are utilizing the finest tackle and equipment as well as the hottest lures, plugs and flies as well. "I remember taking fly tying lessons from Bob Clouser back in the mid 90's (how could I ever forget that awesome experience) and while inspecting one of my recently tied flies Bob said "That is beautiful work. But if it took me that much time to tie ONE fly, I think I'd shoot myself!". Admittedly, Duber does not tie flies very fast but that attention to detail is a personality trait that his customers have come to expect and appreciate on his fishing charters. "On a day when the fish are aggressive and actively feeding we may not need to make sure that everything is perfect with our offering. But, when the bite is tough, I am going to eliminate every known possible factor that would normally keep that fish from biting so that we have the best opportunity to hook that fish." Captain Duber is certified by the Federation of Fly Fishers as a fly casting instructor. He does seminars for the Ladies Let's go Fishing organization for whom he is recommended as a preferred guide. He is a contributing writer for Coastal Angler Magazine and conducts skill stations for "Hook Kids on Fishing" programs. He conducts seminars on fly fishing programs for CAM. He is DOA professional Guide and works various community events and programs for DOA Lures. Capt. Duber has been featured in various publications and websites including The Nautical Mile, FLW Outdoors top 10 and Florida Today. |
Knowing where to go and how to present the right bait is the key to fishing success and Captain Ray spends all of his time working toward this end. Tide, flow, water temperature, weather, time of day, habits of the fish, habits of the baitfish and general water conditions all have a significant effect on successful fishing. Captain Ray is working every day to gather the information necessary to provide the best possible fishing trip. With miles and miles of shoreline and thousands of structure and contour changes the possibilities can be endless. Your guide is there to evaluate all of the options and use his experience and knowledge to put you on fish. All of this, of course, is behind the scenes as the purpose of the trip is to catch fish and have fun. Ray as been known to say, "Most things that are this much fun are usually against the law". Whether Snook, Jacks, Mackerel, Trout or Little Tunny, feeding fish can always bring out the smiles and get the adrenalin flowing. Captain Ray can't tell you what the fishing was like in this area 30 years ago, but he can tell what it has been like for the past couple of weeks. That, of course, is what is most important. When not on a charter Captain Ray will be on the water preparing for the next customer. |
